Lovers of the Dark™ FAQ
It depends on the meaning you’re choosing. A promise ring is a commitment ring (often worn before engagement). An engagement ring is typically the proposal ring, usually more detailed or center stone-focused. Wedding rings are the bands exchanged at the ceremony. Many couples pick a matching set from this collection and wear it as a promise set now, then as engagement/wedding rings later.
All three. These dark rings work as wedding rings, engagement rings, or promise rings - perfect for couples who prefer alternative and dark romance rings over traditional looks.
It depends on the design. Almost all of our men’s and women’s black wedding bands use tungsten as the base metal, while our women’s black engagement rings use sterling silver as the base metal. The dark look comes from the finish applied on top.
These finishes apply to our sterling silver rings - like our women’s black engagement rings. Depending on the design, the silver is plated with black ruthenium or black rhodium. Black rhodium typically gives a deeper, jet-black look, while black ruthenium is usually a slightly lighter charcoal-black, but more durable for everyday wear, which is why we’ve upgraded most designs to black ruthenium.
You may also see the term “black gold” used to describe a jet-black plated look - customers often use it interchangeably with black rhodium. These dark precious-metal finishes are premium materials, which is where the “black gold” phrasing comes from.
Yes. We offer black fire opal rings in this collection. In direct light, the black opal can flare with red and fire-like color play for a bold, dark-romance finish.
